Which is the best Termite Control Chemical in India

A very frequently asked question that we come across when we interact with home owners in Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon is Which is the best termiticide (termite control chemical) available in India. Here we try to elobrate various aspects of termiticides that should be kept in mind while getting Anti termite treatment done.

Most termite treatment professional companies develop a choice for termiticides they would use,  based on their own experiences and years of feed back from their customers. Normally the efficacy of termite control products may vary from one locality/ climatic conditions to another, and these choices made by termite professional may be genuine. So always ask your termite professional to justify their preference for a particular termiticide and since how many years they had been using it . It will speak about their confidence about that product. The Bureau Of Indian Standard recommends three Termite Control Chemicals under ISI specification for Pre and Post construction Anti termite treatments (IS:6313 part 2 and 3) . Those three listed termiticides are.

i). Clorpyrifos 20% EC

ii) Lindane 20% EC

iii).Imidacloprid 30.5% SC

Recently third in the category i.e Imidacloprid 30.5% SC  termiticide has been added to the existing recommended chemicals  for anti-termite treatment in all types of building i.e Residential, Commercial and Industrial .

The recommended emulsion concentration by weight for first two chemicals i.e Clorpyrifos 20% EC and Lindane 20% EC is 1.0 % which means that 1 Lit. of these chemical has to be mixed with 19 liters of water.

Whereas for recommended concentration by weight for Imidacloprid is 0.075% i.e mix 10.5 ml of Imidacloprid 30.5% SC with 5 liter water.

There are certain research conducted by  Forest Research Institute (FRI) Dehradoon at five major northen Indian states over the past 18 years that  shows  that different termite treatment chemicals have a life expectancy of from three to Nine years.

Termite control products are classified into Repellent and Non-repellent types. Termite control products like fipronil, Imidacloprid etc which are Non repellant in nature are reported to work effectively  (especially in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida, which have alkaline and alluvial  soils) compared to Anti termite chemicals that are repellent to termites (e.g., cloropyrifos, cypermethrin and  bifenthrin). So instead of going  only after a termiticide  it would be a better idea to decide upon a company based on its service, experience, reputation and warranty they offer.

However many termite treatment companies will offer you a  choice of chemical , if you request them. Apart from choosing the right Anti termite treatment chemical , it is equally important that you choose the right Termite control treatment company who undertakes the job. Because deciding the right chemical for termite control only accomplishes 50% of the job. Without choosing a professional company and assuring good workmanship even the best chemical may go waste and the whole purpose of treatment may frustrate.

Apart from the product being used , the one with the higher  dosages and permitted  rate of application also need to be considered. The one with dosages and permitted rate of application  is better and will last longer, though it costs slightly more.   There is sufficient data available which proves that termiticides with higher application rates perform better during the entire period of contract and warranty.
